Yesterday I was at my office in the church building and was feeling overwhelmed by recent events. I stepped outside to walk around the parking lot and noticed a patch of honeysuckles. I stood there for a moment, watching butterflies flutter between the white and yellow flowers.
In that moment I began to count the blessings God has given me. The sun on my shoulders, the sweet smell of the flowers in the breeze, my health, my salvation, my church family, my wife and kids…and that’s just to name few. That practice helped me to remember that God is active in my life. While I didn’t skip back to my office laughing all the way, I did feel less burdened, more optimistic and more at peace.
“He says, “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” (Psalm 46: 10-11)
“Do not be anxious about anything. But in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Phil 4: 6-7)
We all are extremely blessed. And it is Satan’s great desire that we focus on anything other than God and His goodness.
May you see take time to count your blessings great and small.
