Next Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm in Room 1, we will begin a marriage class here at NHCOC. It is based on a book and curriculum that Kira and I have been working on as we develop a marriage workshop called “To Have and To Hold.” I am very excited to teach this class, but there are a couple of things that I want to make sure you know from the start:

  1. All people are welcome to attend the class. We need happily married couples to participate because you have so much to offer to the group as a whole. We expect struggling couples to come to the class in hopes of reigniting the fire and getting their marriage back on track. We expect single men and women you are one day thinking about being married and want to get a jump start in their knowledge of how to have a happy and successful marriage. We understand that there might be people in the class that are divorced or are in class participating without their spouses. The point is… ALL ARE WELCOME NO MATTER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES YOU ARE IN.
  2. I do not know everything about how to have a successful marriage. I know what the Bible teaches about how to have healthy relationships. I know that the Bible teaches about how husbands are to love their wives and how wives are to respect and submit to their husbands as unto the Lord. I have seen many examples of healthy and unhealthy marriages and observed and noted what to do and what not to do. I know what has worked and has not worked in my marriage. I also know what I want out of my marriage and what I want for your marriage. The point is… WE ALL HAVE PERSPECTIVES AND SOMETHING TO OFFER THE CLASS.
  3. This is going to be a highly discussion-based class. We will begin with prayer every class. There will be passages from God’s Word that we will read, and there will be some points that I will make as the teacher. Nevertheless, please be prepared to talk and communicate with each other and your spouse. The plan is that together we will learn, grow, and strengthen our marriages. The point is… Let’s be respectful and ready to participate in class as a group.

This is going to be so good for you and all your relationships. Invite your friends, neighbors, and family to attend with you. There will be weekly giveaways and a final date night drawing for the couple who attends all the classes.

Oh, this is going to be fun!!! God wants us to enjoy and cherish our marriages. I believe marriage is designed by God to have and to hold.

I love you,

Alex

P.S. Remember that next Wednesday (September 7th) we will have class first and then the devotional afterward. So when you get here next week at 6:30 go straight to class FIRST.
