Married couples should make sure to take the time to get away from it all and spend time together. This weekend that is exactly what Kira and I are doing. We are headed to Little Rock in just a few minutes to attend Comic Con at the Statehouse Convention Center. I get to meet Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden, and John de Lancie. I’m looking forward to it. But not just because of those celebrities but because I know that Kira and I need quality time together in all the busyness that is in our lives.
The NHYG teen girls are going to the Highway Church of Christ in Judsonia for the Teen girls retreat on Saturday and I am looking forward to hearing about how good it was for our group. I know that they will be encouraged and they will grow in their faith and love for Jesus. Getting away, just the girls, is so good for them.
Retreats are good for everyone. Even the Lord on occasion would retreat away from everyone to pray and concentrate on his ministry and the relationship He had with His Father (Mark 1:35; 6:31-32). And if the Lord did it, then we too would be wise to take a moment of pause and reset our lives with retreat. Get away from it all and think about your dedication and your love for Jesus. Pray, meditate, and sing (yes, even if you are alone). The point is for you to stop, get away, and concentrate on other things than the regular hustle and bustle of your life.
Retreating is good for the marriage, for teen girls, and for everyone’s soul.
For the Lord,
Alex Mills
