December 1. This is the first day of the last month of this year. Today marks the beginning of the end.
I was talking with my wife just yesterday about the phrase ‘It’s never too late.’ We were discussing how that phrase is incorrect. There is coming a day when it will be too late. It will be too late to give your life over to Christ. I will be too late to build your relationship with God. It will be too late to show love to your neighbors. It will be too late to share the message that could save someone’s soul. At some point, it will be too late.
The phrase should be, ‘It’s not too late.’ If you are able to utter those words that means that you still have a chance. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done or who you are, if you still have the breath of life, it’s not too late. It’s not too late to be baptized. It’s not too late to study the Word. It’s not too late to serve the people around you. It’s not too late to tell someone about Christ. Right now, in this moment, it’s not too late.
The problem is our perception of time. We think that we at least have tomorrow. We know that we will some day pass away. But that won’t happen today, so I have tomorrow. We know that Jesus will come again. But it doesn’t look like that will happen today, so I have tomorrow. We are in the final stretch of 2021. This time of year should help us be mindful that time winds down and eventually we will run out of tomorrows.
Today, it’s not too late. What do you need to do today to get your soul ready for ‘Tomorrow?’ Do you need to forgive someone? Do you need to cut something out of your life? Do you need to confess Jesus is Lord and be baptized? Don’t wait until tomorrow. Because it’s not never too late.
