At times, you may feel lonely and long for companionship.  It’s natural to desire someone with whom you can share your life. Unfortunately, being married does not protect you from feelings of loneliness. Even married people get lonely, too. Sometimes it’s because the marriage isn’t all that great or sometimes it’s because work, school, business trips, or hobbies all can get in the way of connecting in your marriage relationship. The reality is married or not most people at one time or another in their life will feel isolated, vulnerable, and alone. We want to talk and we want to be heard. We want to be included and cared about. We desire intimacy and want to be connected to someone.

Loneliness is a result of the sin of man.  When sin entered into the world it has been a struggle ever since.  Sin separated, Adam and Eve from God, and from each other and loneliness was born in that moment. The remedy for loneliness isn’t what remedies our loneliness, but who remedies it, namely Jesus Christ, the friend to all.

It’s interesting that God created man in His image, and even He is not a God who exists alone. He is one God in three persons and wants man to enjoy the fellowship that He shares with the other members of the Godhead. Therefore, in our relationship with God we have a relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Even if we feel all alone at times here on earth we can have a relationship with God that makes it easier to endure any isolation we may have to deal with. Because one plus one is two a person is never truly alone. If there are two people who are in a relationship with God then those who people have a connection with God together.

All the more, if you are feeling alone or vulnerable then attach yourself to God and to His people. These feelings of loneliness will quickly disappear when one enjoys the fellowship we have available to us in Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 41:10 says,

“Do not fear, for I am with you;

Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,

Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Psalm 34:18 says,

“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted

And saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

These two verses are a beautiful reminder that God is always with us. He provides strength and help no matter what is going on in our lives, even loneliness. What a friend we have in Jesus who understands us and helps us cope with feelings of loneliness.

For the Lord,

Alex
